Our Pitch

For our pitch, we were not sure at first what genre we wanted to do our opening scene in. After discussing it over and over we decided that doing our opening scene in the horror/crime genre would be the best way to go for us. This is because horror has a lot of suspense that draws the viewers in. It will also leave you wanting to know what happens next or what is happening in the scene. The sense of confusion but suspense draws you in and makes you continue watching as you are waiting for the big reveal that will make you understand it all. Hence, we believe that this genre will be the best for our two-minute opening scene as viewers will want to know what’s happening next. For our first pitch, it would be “Girl at home gets kidnapped by a mysterious stranger when she opens the door.” For this pitch, we were thinking about a girl just relaxing at home and going about her normal day. Then at night, there is a knock at her door but she was not expecting anyone at this late hour. When she opens the door she screams and then drops whatever is in her hand. Probably it will be a phone or tv remote. Then she gets snatched and the scene will be over. This will create sense as viewers would want to know what did she see? or who did she see? Why is she being kidnapped? etc. For our second pitch, it would be “Girl gets chased and kidnapped while walking home.” In this pitch, we were thinking of a girl casually walking on the street. Then she would feel as if someone is watching or following her and starts to walk faster. She will then see a weird car following and proceed to walk even faster as she keeps looking back. Then she would see the car starting to move faster and begin to run while still consistently looking back. Then she will see the car turn and she will calm down and begin to walk slower, but still at a rushed pace to get home. Then as she turns the corner, she will see someone and they will pick her up and cover her mouth and she will be kicking and screaming. Then the scene will be cut off by a screen saying three weeks earlier. This will help to bring suspense as the viewers will now be thinking of what happened three weeks earlier that led to this. 

As our inspiration for picking these pitches, it was based on the social issue of human trafficking and kidnapping. Many young girls and adults have been kidnapped, trafficked, and forced to do things against their own will. Most of these cases are similar to our pitch as girls are taken from their homes or while walking on the street. Whether it's from coming from school or work and going home or just simply walking to the closest corner store. Nevertheless, human trafficking was our inspiration and whether the pitch we choose is “Girl at home gets kidnapped by a mysterious stranger when she opens the door” or “Girl gets chased and kidnapped while walking home,” we will do our best to bring out the horror in the opening scene and hope you all will like it.
