Title Research: (Ava)

We were able to watch the opening to this on Netflix. The opening sequence shows a computer screen with images of people who are mainly men with red x’s crossed over their faces. The movie title “Ava” then glitches or twitch onto the screen. The opening scene takes us on a journey of Ava’s life. We see images of her mom, sister and a shot of young Ava running around. We could tell she was athletic because some shots showed her fencing, doing gymnastics, karate, and archery. We also see closeups of grade reports or a yearbook that showed she was a straight A student, Valedictorian, and had many awards. We saw a wrecked car and newspaper reading that two people died in a DUI car accident caused by an honor student. From this we assumed she may have been the person driving under the influence which led to people dying. We then see multiple shots of Ava training in the military. It then displayed images of files that describe Ava being dishonorably discharged, guns, needles, medical reviews, cameras recording people, targets on different parts of the world, houses blown up, wigs on mannequins, and money being transferred. So far from all this viewers can get an idea of what the director is trying to demonstrate to us. The titles displayed in the opening were, the film name and those who worked on the film. The designer prioritized images that would help to give away information about Ava’s life. Such as the shot of pills, needles, and alcohol showed that she was an alcoholic and took drugs. The military images showed that she went into the military for a second chance at life after killing two people. The opening scene was fast paced because an image would remain for a second or more and the music felt as if there would be a lot of tension or action. The opening kind of shows that it is an action pack with the explosions, guns being targeted at people, disguises, and words reading “operation”. The designer utilized editing techniques such as faced paced editing. As we replayed the opening, we saw how a shot or image would quickly cut to the next shot. It also gives this techno vibe because the names in this opening scene would glitch off the screen or sometimes just disappear.  The background music sounded like the usual music we would hear in a cop or action films. The music sounded casual but had a suspenseful feeling to it because it would speed up at certain parts. With these in mind, the movie appeared to not be targeted to younger people or those that don't like watching movies that are suspenseful.
